21st Century Tools for 21st Century Students

There has been a strong emphasis on the use of technology in schools. Should schools move forward with the use of tools for the 21st Century student? or Will the "old" way work just fine?

I think a balance should be considered. There are many valid teaching tools that technology has to offer but I think that we are losing the art of effective face-to-face communication that needs to be taught in schools. In my opinion technology should be used to work more effectively but nothing is wrong with some good old fashion teaching.

I think that technology etiquette needs to be taught. I think that using technology to deliver instruction can certainly improve teaching and learning for 21st century learners.

Sorry, I deleted the comment before this by mistake.

I do agree with you about some kind of balance between technology and the traditional way of teaching. However, as we can see in this century, the technology is somewhat taking the place of traditional teaching.

I must agree with you that a ballance should be considred. However, we have to keep in mind that these are vast times and we have to keep up with those times. In this competitive wporld we must assure that our students are in touch and are advancing in this world of technology. We much push forward for them to embrace these 21st century skills, but it is ok to keep that old calculator in their pocket (Monica Brock)

I feel like we are at a point in history where we have to be proficient in BOTH analogue and digital modalites and that's ALOT of work! Just organizing everything like lesson plans can be very easily and well done digitally, and while I have lots of gadgets and applications, there is some secure feeling that comes with the good old plain day book calendar.
